7Steps to Evangelization

1st Step
2nd Step 3rd Step 4th Step 5th Step 6th Step 7th Step

1st step Job description: Know the job you are given.

What is Evangelization?
Evangelization is the Proclamation of the Gospel to those who do not know Jesus yet. Evangelization is the continuation of Jesus' mission.

He calls you: "Come, follow me, and I will make you fishers of men." (Matthew, 4: 19)
And He sends you: "As the Father has sent me, I am sending you." (John,20:21)

As you can see, the first step to Evangelization is "discipleship".
You are called to become Jesus' disciple and you are sent to "make disciples of all nations" (Matthew,28:19)
You can not make disciples unless you are a disciple.

Discipleship includes knowing and practicing the Master's teaching, sharing the Master's life, His joys and His sorrows, and remaining all the way a disciple, without any ambition of becoming the Teacher.
Discipleship is the beginning and the end of Evangelization.

2nd step Job preparation: expect the unexpected.

The Evangelizer is the first to be Evangelized.
Before bringing Jesus to the four corners of the world,
you must bring Him to the four corners of your life.
.
"I myself no longer live, but Christ lives in me." (Galatians,2: 20)
You will be able to announce what you live.

"Worship Christ as Lord of your life. And if you are asked about your Christian hope, always be ready to explain it. But you must do this in a gentle and respectful way". (1 Peter, 3:15-16.)
You know that for any job, training is very important.

"I discipline my body like an athlete, training it to do what it should. Otherwise, I fear that after preaching to others I myself might be disqualified." (1 Corinthians, 9: 27)

A sound preparation will lead you to:

(1) be steeped in prayer. (2) rooted in Scripture. . (3) initiated into a worshipping Community (4) and active in serving others.

Be always aware that anything can happen during an Evangelization journey:

misunderstandings, confusion, disagreements, failures, disappointment¡Ka sound preparation with a good training is a guarantee of perseverance.

Remember that Jesus does not call the qualified, but He qualifies the called.
Your preparation is a means of making you a "qualified evangelizer".

3rd step Body check up: Jesus loves you as you are.

You know your strengths and your weaknesses, you are aware of your frailty.
You stand in the middle of the world, to be His witness.
You carry within yourself the light and the joy of Jesus,

"But this precious treasure--this light and power that now shine within us--is held in perishable containers, that is, in our weak bodies. So everyone can see that our glorious power is from God and is not our own." (2 Corinthians, 4: 7)

The Apostle Paul expresses this very beautifully:

"For when I am weak, then I am strong."(2 Corinthians,12:10)
"God's Word, written or spoken, is like a mirror. And just as I use a mirror to detect a blemish

in my physical appearance- and without a mirror or someone to tell me where the blemish is, I would not discover it, so it is spiritually. By reading or hearing God's Word, I see the condition of my soul" (from an anonymous 14th century monk).

Accepting one another as we are, is the first step to creating a happy and powerful Evangelizing Community.

4th step Market research: Be positive!

Be certain in your heart that all over the world, among any nation, any human group, there are people waiting for the Proclamation of the Gospel.
"I tell you, open your eyes and look at the fields! They are ripe for harvest."
(John, 4:35)

At times you are sent to reap what other Evangelizers had previously sown,
at other times you will be sent to sow, without any harvest.
"Thus the saying 'One sows and another reaps' is true. I sent you to reap what you have not worked for. Others have done the hard work, and you have reaped the benefits of their labor." (John, 4:37-38)

Don't be too much concerned about tangible results. The greatest result is your decision to live your mission.

In today's pluralistic society, where each individual is in contact with different cultures and religions, it is vital for the Evangelizer to have great faith in Jesus' message and great confidence that there are people there ready to accept it.

5th step Partnership. I am not alone!

When you proclaim the Gospel, you know that Jesus is with you.
"And be sure of this: I am with you always, even to the end of the age."
(Matthew, 28:20)

and He acts through you. You are His partner. And all those who do Evangelization work with you, are also Jesus' partners, and your co-partners.
"We work together as partners who belong to God. You are God's field, God's building--not ours." (1 Corinthians, 3: 9)

6th step Confidence. Confidence in yourself, confidence in God.

You can do the job. You will do it well. You will employ all the talents Jesus has given you for this job. You will not be afraid of the difficulties you will encounter on the way.
"With the strength God gives you, be ready to suffer for the proclamation of the Good News." (2 Timothy 1: 8)

Your confidence is founded on the power of the Word you announce.
"Because I preach this Good News, I am suffering and have been chained like a criminal. But the word of God cannot be chained." (2Timothy,2:9)

Let the witness of your life be completed by the witness of your word.
"You must never be ashamed to tell others about our Lord." (2 Timothy 1: 8)
When you speak, you have confidence that it is Jesus who speaks through you.

"He who listens to you listens to me; he who rejects you rejects me." (Luke 10: 16)
Your confidence is not pride, because,
"When I preach the gospel, I cannot boast, for I am compelled to preach. Woe to me if I do not preach the gospel!" (1 Corinthians, 9: 16)

7th step Accountability. I am a member of an Evangelizing Community.

All Evangelizers are sent by a Community and report to a Community.
Evangelization is the mission of the whole Church.
"God has given me the responsibility of serving His Church by proclaiming His message in all its fullness to you Gentiles." (Colossians, 1:25)

"Between the members of this body, the Church, exists such a unity and solidarity that a member who does not work at the growth of the body, to the extent of his possibilities, must be considered useless both to the Church and to himself." (Apostolate of the Laity,2)
Mutual support and sharing between the Church Community and the Evangelizers is an essential part of Evangelization.

"It is right for me to feel this way about all of you, since I have you in my heart; for whether I am in chains or defending and confirming the gospel, all of you share in God's grace with me." (Philippians 1:7)
